PORTSMOUTH ACTION FIELD GUN TEAM
RECRUITMENT
“ARE YOU TOUGH ENOUGH”
We need 25 new field gunners to train for 2009/2010. There are shows across the UK in June/July 2009 and a possible visit to South Africa in November 2009. Our major event and challenge is for our 2010 South African World Cup and Military Tattoo (Durban) in June/July 2010.
We will also be seeking participants for our Swaartzkop Challenge in South Africa, held on Swaartzkop Hill, central Kwa-Zulu Natal, the scene in February 1900 that led to our famous field gun history in the UK lasting 100 years.
We will train you, beginning in January 2009. We will also get you fit, so if those lungs and little pot-belly are troubling you, never fear. We can re-build your horrible body. If you can take discipline, and you want camaraderie and teamwork, come and join us. We turn good men into better men.
Check out the video on our recriutment page

THINK YOU'RE TOUGH ENOUGH?
Wanted: 20 selected volunteers to have the unique opportunity to compete in our Swartzkop hill pull challenge in South Africa 4th - 19th July 2008. This is the original hill that Naval 12lb guns were hauled up to help the relief of Ladysmith in Feb 1900. The competition will include taking on teams from the South African forces. PAFG still hold the record 18Min 33secs!

The South African trip will also include field gun displays at the Military show in Durban with the regular S.A Army. July 9/10/11. We will also visit http://www.rollinmranch.co.za/index.php stay at the also the Harrismith Boer commando barracks and enjoy the hospitality of the M.O.T.H.S club.

We also intend to have 2 field gun crews for our very own 'South African Challenge Run' display to be taken around the UK at various shows and other events during 2008, similar to the Royal Navy's Brickwoods crews. Although the PAFG crews complete a run out, run back and run home using only 11 men. Training will begin Wednesday 2nd January 2008 D-Day Museum car park. Session will last approx 1.5hrs. Dress warm with boots if you have them. Bring a towel and a dry set of gear to change into. If it rains we still train.

Training is absolutely essential. We need to assess you before we start throwing guns and limbers about, possibly as soon as the end of February. D-Day seafront and Museum will not be the training venue every week. We will visit Gosport, Portsdown Hill and Buster Hill.

Please call Peter Scott on 02392 781380 to confirm your attendance. Or email mailto:join@pafg.co.uk

At last pafg has managed to source the BBC's Navy Field Gun programme, To the Limit and Beyond in dvd format. This is the inside story of the Royal Navy Field Gun competition showing the Porstmouth crew preparing for the Royal Tournament at Earls Court.
